After flying to an altitude of 39,045 meters (128,100 feet) in a helium-filled balloon, Felix Baumgartner completed an inspirational and extremely brave record breaking jump from the edge of space.

Yet none of this would have been possible without the bright minds and creativity of men and women who helped to engineer and develop the technology around Felix's brave stunt.

From the pressure suit to communications, from the capsule to the parachute, each piece of technology played a significant role in the overall project.  This shows how the combination of different technologies is much more important than the sum of it parts.  Everything had to work in harmony to increase the chances of success and help Felix Baumgartner achieve this new record as safely as possible.

The Technology applications are in:

  • High altitude balloon
  • Capsule
  • Pressure suit and helmet
  • Parachute
  • Backup Safety Systems
  • Chest pack
